AWARD winning photographer, Grant Quinn has always had a love for the arts and believes that this passion has given him the knowledge and ability to create beautiful and professional artwork.

Through his association with artists, Grant began to look at the world through a unique perspective.

Learning to experience life with such insight, has given him a new interpretation on everything he views, now seeing shapes, shadows, light, colour and beauty in things he never saw before.

Grant turned to photography as his medium of choice.

With a fondness for architectural / documentary style photography, and a love of our amazing landscape, Grant approach’s photography without expectation and photographs with the philosophy of “do it for yourself.”

Through Grant’s love of Ipswich’s beautiful and historic architecture, he discovered one architect’s name was associated with many of the buildings we see and love in this city.

The name George Brockwell Gill is synonymous with Ipswich architecture and buildings; his rich legacy is evident throughout the city.

For 55 years, from 1887 to 1943, Brockwell Gill designed or supervised the construction of some of the city’s most iconic buildings including the Ipswich Technical College, the Soldiers Memorial Hall, Ipswich

Girls’ Grammar School, Woodlands of Marburg and the Flour Mill.

Grant soon found himself photographing these homes and buildings and this led to him putting together an exhibition of his photographs.

The exhibition is titled ‘Architectural Layers’ which is a homage to George Brockwell Gill.

The exhibition opened at the Ipswich Art Gallery earlier this month and nearly 200 guests attended.

‘Architectural Layers’ is open at the Ipswich Art Gallery, Darcy Doyle Place, Ipswich until July 9, 10am to 5pm, 7 days a week.
