A local men’s shed is looking to pass on their skills to the community and spread the lessons they have learned.
Those repairs around the house add up and not everybody understands how to complete them, so these men are bringing the skills of the “Handyman” to the streets.
On Tuesday, May 28, the men from the Beacon Community Menshed will be passing on their skills at the Beacon Wellness Hub at Leichhardt.
John Molhoek will be co-ordinating the instruction groups, and said the session would show the ease of most basic repairs around the house.
“Most repairs can be done using battery-powered tools now,” he said.
“A recent grant through the Australian Men’s Shed Association meant that we have been able to purchase thousands of dollars worth of equipment for use at the Hub.
“There has been a lot of interest received from ladies who have asked when the courses are commencing”.
There will be a morning tea for those attending who want to learn more about how to gain the knowledge and skills to do repairs at home.
The informal classes will commence one morning a week giving “hands on” experience to help participants use appropriate tools and follow repair methods for best results.
Beacon Menshed Secretary John Swanwick said the lessons were possible through great relationships in the community.
“We have a great relationship with Bunnings, and the Bunnings West Ipswich activities organiser Hannah Condon helped select the tools and equipment that the grant funded,” he said.
“Ozito brand tools have been chosen because the batteries are interchangeable and just the one type of charger is required, minimising cost.
“We’re really looking forward to engaging with the community, because our men have exceptional skills that they are more than willing to pass on to anyone ready to learn”.
