THE rubber will hit the road when the Repco Supercars Championships Series returns to Queensland Raceway for the first time in six years.

Ipswich has not hosted a Supercars event since 2019 after it was dropped from the schedule, although the track has been regularly used for testing and ride days by racing teams in recent years.

Local motor racing commentator Zak Caban said the return of the Repco Supercars Championship to Queensland Raceway was long overdue in the eyes of many.

“For spectators, this is arguably one of the best tracks on the calendar, as you can see the entire circuit from (virtually) any vantage point,” he said.

“No other Australian venue on the (Supercars) calendar offers that sort of spectator experience, or value for money.”

Caban said it was a real feather in the cap for motorsports identity Tony Quinn.

“All of the money he’s tipped into the site, out there at the end of Champions Way in Willowbank, has been leading to this,” he said.

“Since he took over the venue (from John Tetley) at the end of 2021, his goal has been to get the venue back on the Supercars schedule.

“Quinn’s team continue to work away at upgrading the venue, and the infrastructure within.

“It’s also a win for the local business and tourism sector.”

Queensland Raceway General Manager Josh McFarlane has welcomed the announcement that the Supercars series is back in Ipswich.

He wants the Repco Supercars to now stay in Ipswich after being dropped from the schedule five years ago.

“We have listened to all the spectators, fans, everyone that’s been to QR for Supercars, and we want to come back to 2025 to experience it in a newer better way,” McFarlane said.
