THE Rosewood Aquatic Centre will continue delivering swimming lessons and aquatic fitness programs for the local community, with Ipswich City Council approving a new decade-long lease for the popular facility.
Council has agreed to renew the lease for the centre at 1 Mill St, Rosewood, through to December 2035, ensuring the ongoing operation of the much-loved community swimming hub.
Finance and Governance Committee Chairperson Councillor Paul Tully said the centre is currently leased to Australian Crawl (Goodna) Pty Ltd (ACG), which manages a number of leisure and fitness facilities across the region.
“The Rosewood Aquatic Centre operates primarily during the summer season and is managed by ACG, which also oversees other leisure and fitness centres in the region,” Cr Tully said.
“ACG delivers swimming lessons and aquatic fitness classes from the premises, which includes two heated pools, a children’s splash zone and an outdoor gym area.
“I’m pleased Council has approved the lease renewal, allowing ACG to continue providing popular learn-to-swim programs and group fitness classes for the Rosewood community.”
Under the renewed agreement, the lessee will continue to be responsible for maintaining the premises in good repair throughout the term of the lease, excluding fair wear and tear and end-of-life replacements.
Division 4 Councillor David Martin said the long-term lease would be welcomed by local families who rely on the centre as an accessible community facility.
“This 10-year lease renewal ensures Rosewood families can continue to enjoy public swimming facilities close to home,” Cr Martin said.
“It supports an active and healthy lifestyle, with modern facilities and programs that cater for swimmers of all ages.”
Division 4 Councillor Jim Madden said the renewal also plays an important role in water safety for the next generation of Ipswich residents.
“This partnership will help ensure Ipswich children have the opportunity to learn vital water safety skills,” Cr Madden said.
“It’s fantastic that families in Rosewood can continue to access quality learn-to-swim programs.”
The lease renewal secures the Rosewood Aquatic Centre’s role as a key recreational and wellbeing asset for the community well into the next decade.
