STATE Member for Ipswich West Wendy Bourne has joined forces with local residents to push for better community facilities, launching two petitions this month.

The first petition is calling for the Rosewood Aquatic Centre to stay open year-round.

Currently, the pool closes for five months each year from April to September due to inadequate heating, leaving residents without access to swimming, fitness, and water safety programs.

“The Rosewood Pool is at the heart of this community,” Ms Bourne said.

“For many families, it’s a vital amenity to stay active, where kids learn to swim, and where residents connect.

Closing it for months each year just doesn’t make sense.”

The second petition focuses on the Thagoona football fields, where players and their families continue to face challenges with outdated facilities. It calls on Ipswich City Council and the Queensland Government to work together to provide proper plumbing and changerooms.

“For too long, local footballers and their families have had to put up with substandard facilities that simply don’t meet the needs of a growing community,” Ms Bourne said.

“Ipswich is a major sporting hub in Queensland, and it is unacceptable that our athletes don’t have access to proper amenities when training and representing their clubs.

“I will continue to fight to make sure our communities get the facilities they deserve,” Ms Bourne said.

Residents can access copies of the petitions at Ms Bourne’s electorate office, on her website at wendybourne.com.au/petitions, or via her social media platforms.

The petitions will remain open for several weeks.
