THE annual ‘Welcoming the Babies’ community event in Greater Springfield is on again in what is dubbed ‘the cutest baby citizenship ceremony’.

State MP for Jordan, Charis Mullen said the free community event co-hosted with Federal Oxley MP, Milton Dick was an opportunity to connect with new parents in the Greater Springfield region and surrounds.

“We recognise that this is a community with many young families and we wanted a way to reach out to them and offer support and connections through local services in our region,” she said.

“The event began in 2018, with a hiatus in 2020 and 2021 due to Covid but came back strong in 2022 with over 100 babies registered for the event.

“This year’s event will be hosted at the brand-new Mater Health Hub in Springfield, the first time many locals will have the chance to see the brand-new facility, constructed in the old Masters building.

“We are grateful to Mater Health Services for offering this fantastic venue for our event and for all the activities they are organising including baby CPR demonstrations and cooking classes.

“With the new Mater Springfield Public Hospital currently under construction, we know there is a lot of interest in the local community about ‘Mater Mothers’ and there will be information on the new maternity services that will be available at the Hospital.

“We will also have a ‘Mums and Bubs’ Yoga Session and Ipswich Libraries will once again run story time readings”, Ms Mullen said.

Families need to register for the welcome ceremony.

For more information and to register contact Charis Mullen’s office on 3447 9300.
