A new statewide police operation aimed at reducing break-ins, robberies and stolen vehicles will roll out across Queensland this week, as authorities seek to build on recent declines in crime victims.

The State Government has announced the launch of Operation Forge, a high-visibility policing effort to be led by the Queensland Police Service and supported by specialist units and tactical resources.

The operation will begin this Friday, targeting crime hotspots across the state with a focus on repeat and high-risk offenders involved in property crime and vehicle theft.

According to government figures, the number of victims of crime in Queensland fell by 7.2 per cent in 2025 compared with the previous year. The government says the latest operation is designed to accelerate that trend and further reduce community harm.

Operation Forge will involve district officers working alongside the Criminal Investigation Branch, Child Protection and Investigation Units, and tactical crime squads.

Additional support will be provided by specialist assets including POLAIR, forensic services, surveillance teams and the Digital Intelligence Community Engagement Team.

The government says frontline policing capacity has increased since the October 2024 election, with a net gain of 588 police officers statewide. Unplanned attrition has also dropped to 2.6 per cent, the lowest level recorded in five years.

Police and Emergency Services Minister Dan Purdie said the operation would focus on those responsible for the most serious and repeat offending.

“Operation Forge is about targeting the worst offenders and continuing to reduce the number of victims of crime across Queensland,” he said.

“We’ve seen a reduction in crime victims, but there is more work to do to ensure communities feel safe.”

The operation will also concentrate on offenders linked to repeat and serious crimes, with the government reporting a 17 per cent reduction in serious repeat offenders over the past year.

Acting Police Commissioner Brett Pointing said the coordinated effort was designed to disrupt criminal behaviour and reassure the public.

“This operation sends a clear message that criminal activity impacting everyday Queenslanders will not be tolerated,” he said.

“I want to acknowledge our police officers and staff for their ongoing commitment to the communities they serve.”

Authorities say Operation Forge will continue as a visible presence across Queensland in the coming weeks, with enforcement activity adjusted based on emerging crime trends and intelligence.
