A MUCH-LOVED beekeeper whose generosity and knowledge left a lasting mark on the industry has been honoured with a new perpetual trophy, ensuring his contribution will live on and a local beekeeping institution being named the first recipients.
Bee All Natural has become the inaugural recipient of the Stuart Thompson Perpetual Trophy for Most Successful Exhibitor, an honour co-owner Jason Roebig described as one of the proudest moments of the business’s beekeeping journey.
But behind the trophy is the legacy of a man whose contribution could never be measured simply by ribbons, trophies or jars of award-winning honey.
Stuart Thompson, who died last year, was remembered as a selfless mentor, generous teacher and passionate supporter of fellow beekeepers.
Mr Roebig got to know Stuart through the Beaudesert Show Society, where Stuart served for many years as Chief Steward of the Apiculture section and became a highly respected figure among exhibitors.
“For those in the industry who knew Stuart, you’ll understand just how much this means,” Mr Roebig said. “Stuart was one of the kindest and most helpful beekeepers you could meet.”
After the challenges the industry has faced, particularly over the past year, being recognised as the Most Successful Exhibitor carries an even deeper meaning.
“Being the inaugural recipient makes it particularly special.”
Eight-year-old Archie Roebig claimed Honey of the Show, beating the field with an entry Mr Roebig described as “absolutely stunning”.
“His honey was absolutely stunning and a wonderful testament to the next generation of beekeepers coming through,” Mr Roebig said.
