I KNOW I am just stating the obvious, but it’s not acceptable that many Ipswich residents in suburbs close to the Swanbank region’s waste industry have had to endure a putrid odour for so long.
Finally, after years of trying to be heard their complaints about the smell are finally getting some results.
A “Stop the Stink” meeting saw more than 100 community members and importantly 11 elected politicians and a spokesperson from Department of Environment and Science attend.
It’s time that waste industry operators that are not complying with DES guidelines were held accountable for their actions.
Long suffering residents that can’t go outside due to the smell deserve better.
The question needs to be asked as to why these operators were allowed to operate so close to an expanding city and why they haven’t been told to pack up and move out to the country.

The Ipswich Toy Run will once again be riding from the Brassall Shopping Centre to the Ipswich Showgrounds delivering toys for the Ipswich Salvation Army.
On Sunday, December 10 more than 600 bike riders are expected to take part with spectators lining the streets to see a great spectacle with bikers and bikes adorned in Christmas attire.
