ON Sunday afternoon I took the family on the Queensland Pioneer Steam Rail ride from Swanbank to the Turf Club and back in an old timber carriage pulled by old blue diesel motor ‘Bubba.’

The train journey goes for one and a half hours travelling through old coal mine areas, relics, and the back of Blackstone.

The grandkids had a ball and the trip is a great adventure, and a trip down memory lane for those who remember the days before electric trains.

Well done to Robert Shearer and his team of loyal volunteers who freely give their time for the enjoyment of others.

Rob’s mum and dad are so committed to the cause they collected tickets on Sunday on their 40th Wedding Anniversary.

Trips run regularly and for information, check the QPSR Facebook page.

LOCALS OUR GREATEST ASSET

We have so much to celebrate in our wonderful city, from our architecture, rich heritage, the arts, sports and dining experiences, but I believe our city’s greatest asset is our people.

Sadly, an unsavoury incident unfolded in a drive-thru in Booval on Saturday when a lady was allegedly threatened at knifepoint.

With a knife to her neck two strangers came to her aid and fought the assailant off and averted what could’ve been a tragedy.

Alex and my mate Stephen threw caution to the wind and overcame the man until police came and took the man into custody.

Our thoughts are with the lady who was attacked and those affected, but special thanks to Alex and Stephen who proved that not all superheroes wear capes.

ON THE SPORTS FRONT

It was a pleasure to be at the Musketeers Baseball junior presentations on Saturday.

This proud club has produced many internationals, and they are looking for more players in the upcoming season to field more teams.

Norths Tigers hosted 26 junior rugby league games on Saturday.

All clubs rely on volunteers, and none is better than legendary Rita Langer who is serving in the canteen for her 51st season. Love your heart Rita.

SPECIAL COACH: Ali Brigginshaw is giving back to game that made her a star by coaching the juniors.

It was also good to see Jillaroos and Broncos captain Ali Brigginshaw coaching the U6 Norths team.

It is so good to see players giving back to grass roots and inspiring the next generation.

As Easter approaches, I hope you have time to reflect, enjoy your Long weekend.
