AFTER 30 years of teaching children and adults to swim it was time for a pause recently to cut the birthday cake at the Ipswich Swim Factory.
Founder Peter McMahon is normally switched on for statistics, but even he couldn’t guess the numbers who had jumped in the pool for lessons over the years.
He was also hard pressed to work out just how many staff members he’d employed, but he did know that between the current Ipswich and Springfield Orion pools they now have 70 full and part-time staff members.
The Swim Factory will soon have many more on their books with new centres set to open at Plainland, Ripley and Springfield Rise in less than a year.
Surrounded by proud family members and long term employees Peter spoke about the achievement of the Swim Factory to survive multiple floods, some tough economic times and even the crippling Covid outbreak.
To celebrate the Swim factory’s success staff member’s put together a time wall reflecting the journey of the centre since its inception in 1992.

The wall features photos detailing the progression of the centre which is located inside the former McMahon’s Soft Drink factory in Woodend.
