THE powerhouse kennel of Queensland master trainer Tony Brett continued its outstanding run of form at Q1 Lakeside last week, producing a winning treble headlined by emerging star She’s All Fire.
Starting the $1.60 favourite, She’s All Fire proved far too strong, extending a remarkable stretch of consistency for the talented bitch. The Feral Franky x Amron Lass chaser now boasts 10 wins and eight placings from 21 career starts and has missed a placing just once in her past 16 appearances.
She announced herself as one of Queensland’s brightest greyhound prospects earlier this year when she captured the Group 3 Rising Stars Final at Q2 Parklands in March, defeating Neame by three lengths.
“She’s always had good ability and I think the Rising Stars Final win really showed people how good she is,” Brett said.
“She’s a real good dog and she’s probably better suited over the two-turn track. That’s where her ultimate goal is, the Flying Amy in a few weeks.”
The kennel’s second winner came through promising youngster Gemma Keeping, who justified her $1.55 favouritism with a strong win.
The Aston Dee Bee x Georgia Keeping bitch continues to build an exciting record, with six wins and six placings from just 13 starts.
“She probably lacks that little bit of pace in the first 50 metres, but once she gets into her gears she really hits the line strongly,” Brett said.
“She’ll follow the same path into the Flying Amy and that’ll tell us whether she’s ready to take on open-class company.”
Completing the treble was Grubber Kick, who survived a late scare to narrowly hold on as the $1.35 favourite.
Grubber Kick has now won eight of 19 starts, along with four placings, and comes from a highly talented litter of seven that includes
Oxidisation and 353-metre track record holder Wolf Creek.
“She’s got terrific acceleration,” Brett said.
Her sister, Chip Kick, also made it two on the bounce last week winning down the straight as $1.05 favourite.
Brett said he was eagerly anticipating the upcoming winter carnival, with several high-profile southern chasers set to join his kennel, including Cumbria Jack and Dramatical for Victorian trainer Jason Thompson.
“I’m always going to rely on Cumbria Jack because he’s an out-and-out superstar,” Brett said.
“But the one I really can’t wait to get up here is Dramatical for Jason Thompson.”
Dramatical was narrowly beaten in last week’s Warrnambool Cup Final after storming home late.
“Jason sends them up and pretty much says, ‘No news is good news’.”
