TONY Gollan has further cemented his status as the king of Ipswich racing, claiming a remarkable fourth consecutive Ipswich Trainers’ Premiership and his 10th title in the past 12 seasons as the curtain fell on the 2025-26 racing season.
The Queensland training powerhouse again set the benchmark at the Bundamba track, finishing the season with 26 winners and 52 placings to comfortably secure the premiership ahead of emerging trainer Jack Bruce and the father-and-son training partnership of Chris and Corey Munce.
Gollan’s sustained success continues one of the most dominant eras seen at Ipswich Turf Club, with his stable consistently producing winners across metropolitan and provincial Queensland.
The riding honours belonged to Ben Thompson, who capped a sensational return from Hong Kong by claiming the Ipswich Jockeys’ Premiership with 28 winners and 45 placings.
Thompson fittingly saved one of his best performances for the final Ipswich meeting of the season, producing a winning treble aboard the odds-on favourite Our Huntress ($1.23), Silent Thinker ($5.50) and Classique Gal ($4.60) to emphatically seal the local title.
His outstanding season has extended well beyond Bundamba, with Thompson’s red-hot form also delivering him the Brisbane Jockeys’ Premiership in a year that has re-established him among Queensland’s elite riders.
The future of Queensland racing also shone brightly through apprentice Jett Newman, who was crowned Ipswich Apprentice of the Year after an impressive campaign that yielded 11 winners and nine placings.
With Gollan continuing to build his remarkable legacy, Thompson riding at the peak of his powers and Newman announcing himself as one of the state’s brightest young talents, the 2025-26 season reinforced Ipswich’s reputation as one of Queensland’s premier provincial racing venues.
