WALLOON Hotel oozes country charm and hospitality while its steaks are top of the class for “yum factor” in our own backyard.
The black angus rump is the go-to for diners, and on Thursdays the hotel has its super special – black angus rump, chips, salad and sauce for $17.90.
Publican Stewart Gibson raved about the special and, boy, did it deliver.
“It is our usual steak on our menu which is priced at $33.95,” Mr Gibson said.
“It is a beautiful cut of meat and a steal on Thursdays.”
Cooked to the guest’s request, I have had steaks twice at the Walloon Hotel and both times they were cooked exactly as I’d asked – which sometimes is a hard ask at other establishments.
Delicious and juicy and medium as per my request, partnered with chips and sauce, this choice is a home run every time.
The beer is cold, the meals are delicious, and with live music pumping throughout the year, the Walloon Hotel is the place to be.
The historic hotel exudes country charm and hospitality just a few minutes from Ipswich City.
It’s not unusual for locals to arrive on horseback and tie up out the front, and the menu showcases quality produce sourced locally and served in generous portions in a restaurant that spills out to covered outdoor decks.
Mr Gibson and his wife Katie moved from Cairns to take over the hotel, formerly known as the Walloon Saloon, for the family-owned Gibson Group.
Recently unveiling its brand-new bottle shop, the hotel’s social media shouts loud and proud “New Year, new me”.
The hotel philosophy is built on providing a welcoming, family-friendly and affordable dining experience, with a $12 lunch menu available weekdays, and dinner specials from Monday to Thursday.
“It’s so country,” Mr Gibson says of the town of Walloon.
“Yet you’re just eight minutes out of the city and 40 minutes from Brisbane.”
There’s a rodeo at the hotel every July, a steady stream of touring musicians playing live, and Friday night raffles with great prizes given away every week.
Walloon Hotel is located at 1 Queen St, Walloon and is open from 10am-2am daily.
