WHILE the CMC is in town it put a bit of a lull on the Motorsport Precinct in Ipswich so we thought we would recap on some of the amazing sights and sounds of the world of action we call motorsport.
This year has been a little quiet with the pandemic slowing people from putting on events.
In recent months a bit of normality is trickling in with some events getting mega numbers through the gates of both Queensland Raceway and Willowbank Raceway.
Willowbank Raceway played host to one of the biggest Winternationals in modern times with the event packed out over the four days with more than 500 entries over 15 categories.
Most people have heard of the Winternationals but they are now slowly taking notice of some of the more catered events such as Jamboree,
All Ford Day, Kenda Drag Radial Series and of course the 400 Thunder Championship Series.
All Ford Day was one to remember with numerous clubs coming together to show 1200 cars.
The day includes a few hours of on-track action for those with an itchy foot and is one of the biggest nondrag events to hit the venue.
Power events such as the Garrett Turbo Jamboree and Kenda 660 Drag series are both two names to lock into your calendar that are similar yet different.
Jamboree has been around for many moons and started out with the VW Club and slowly became the premier Sports Compact event of the country if not the world with cars, entrants and spectators travelling around the world to get to the track to see some of the fastest imports race.
Australia is a driving force in the category and has blitzed past the USA and is on par with the guys in Puerto Rico even bringing some of the guys from PR over to race the best vs the best.
Kenda 660 Drag Radial Series which is less than a month away is a one eighth mile event which means short and sharp but it doesn’t mean it’s any less spectacular.
The Outlaw Radial cars that are the elite of the event are some of the baddest cars in the world and not far behind the more established style of racing in the USA made famous with the Radial Vs The World events.
It’s run whatever you want as long as it’s on a radial tire, that’s right like your car tyres on your daily.
You can have all the power in the world but if you can’t get it to the track then it’s pointless so it becomes a game of how to set the cars up to not get wheel spin or pick the wheels up and do a massive wheely… even though it looks awesome it slows the cars down.
October 5-8 will be the final round of the Kenda 660 Drag Radial Series for 2022 with over $44 000 up for grabs in a variety of categories, having only a few points separating the big guns it’s going down to the wire!
These cars are running into the three-second range at over 210 miles per hour in just over 200 metres from a standing start!
Imagine driving along the highway and in three seconds you’re doing 330 kph, three times the speed limit.
It’s just wild to think about and witness this sort of speed while only being a few metres away from the action, sights, and sounds.
We could talk for hours on the happenings but we might have to leave that chapter on Queensland Raceway and what is new out at the paperclip for a later issue.
