International Women’s Day (IWD) holds special significance this year as Zonta Ipswich celebrates 30 years since the Beijing Declaration, a landmark commitment to gender equality.

Zonta Ipswich continues its tradition of hosting the annual IWD Breakfast on March 8, bringing the community together to honour women’s achievements and advocate for equity.

This year’s theme, March Forward for all Women and Girls, urges action to ensure education, healthcare and safety for every woman and girl.

For over 30 years, Zonta Ipswich has supported women through programs such as Young Women Leaders, Women in Business Leadership and Women in STEM awards, empowering future changemakers.

The club also works tirelessly to combat gender-based violence and expand leadership opportunities.

Zonta President Jane Reid said that while progress had been made, challenges still remain.

“Thirty years after the Beijing Declaration, we are still fighting for the rights we thought were secure,” she said.

“Now more than ever, we must raise our voices and demand change.”

Beyond IWD, Zonta Ipswich continues its advocacy through events like the Youth Forum on July 25 to address gender-based violence, and the ’Swich it Up Speakeasy on July 19 to fund Zonta projects.

On March 8, Zonta invites Ipswich to stand together in support of women and girls.
