AT 10.45am on April 25 history will be made on Brisbane Street, Ipswich as Olive Pugh and Jean Jackson proudly lead the Ipswich ANZAC Day main parade.
It will be the first time in Ipswich’s history that two women will be at the head of march.
The two veterans couldn’t be more fitting for the honour having both served with the Women’s Auxiliary Australian Air Force.
Ninety-nine year old Jean (right) was stationed at RAAF base Amberley from 1943 to 1945 as a cinematographer, while Olive (left) was a secret code breaker based in Brisbane city in the same building as Sir Douglas MacArthur.
Jean will travel up from her home on the Central Coast of NSW to attend the parade and Ipswich RSL are working behind the scenes to also take her back for a special Amberley Air Base tour.
Olive has a much shorter journey to the Ipswich CBD for the occasion as she now resides in the Milford Grange Retirement Village at Eastern Heights.
Both veterans will ride in vintage army jeeps along the parade route.
