LAST Saturday morning 1st Ipswich Girl Guides celebrated their 100 year anniversary.

  • You Rippa Rita
  • World Youth Titles
  • Box Flat disaster
  • Golden Mollie

It was a great occasion with a healthy crowd of past and present guides on hand to celebrate the event.

It’s good to see that over the years scores of leaders have selflessly given their time to inspire and bring fun, friendship and adventure to the lives of every girl.

Well done to past and present leaders for what you have sown, and continue to bring to community.

We all wish Dee and her team well, and trust they are around for many years to come.

Happy birthday to local volunteering legend Rita.

You Rippa Rita

One of our city’s living treasures, Rita Langer enjoyed another birthday on Saturday.

This amazing lady volunteers at Blair Tuckshop each Friday, and backs up at Norths Rugby League, serving in their canteen on game days.

Rita has given 51 years of service to both groups, and also serves at Meals on Wheels.

You little ripper Rita, I trust you had a great day, and hope you get to enjoy many more birthdays to come.

Athletes Charlize Goody and Toby Stolberg.

World Youth Titles

This week Ipswich and District Athletics pair Charlize Goody and Toby Stolberg went over to Trinidad Tobago to represent Australian in the Commonwealth Youth Athletics Games.

Good luck, we are all behind you as you compete on the world stage.

Also Mia Kertesz is overseas competing for the Australian Dwarf Team in the World Dwarf Games in Germany.

All the best Mia, it’s so exciting to hear of your feats.

Once again these athletes are proof that our city deserves a tartan athletics track.

We are producing world class athletes, and they deserve to train on world class facilities in their home town.

Our city is now the fastest growing area in the State, but our infrastructure is not keeping up with our city’s growth.

We are in desperate need of infrastructure upgrades to our highways and our exits and entries to Willowbank, Karalee, Ripley and Raceview.

Box Flat disaster

It’s 51 years ago this week when all of Ipswich were stunned to hear a Box Flat Mine explosion had killed17 men.

Everyone knew someone affected by the greatest tragedy our city has suffered.

Our thoughts are with those that lost loved ones.

Golden Mollie

Finally congratulations to Australian Swimming’s new golden girl Mollie O’Callaghan.

The former St Peter’s Springfield student won five Gold Medals and a Silver Medal at the World Swimming Championships, and set four World Records .
