IPSWICH Grammar School students have been hard at work over the last three Terms creating artworks for the yearly IGS Art Exhibition that will showcase the talent and skills of the student body. More than 400 artworks, spanning years from Prep to Year 12 will be showcased.
Students from Prep to Year 12, under the guidance of Visual Art Teachers, Barbara Bartz and Andrea MacArthur and Teachers Aide, Kylie Stenzel have created artworks that will amaze everyone.
Ipswich Grammar is renowned for its extensive music, arts, and performance- based programs, of which the IGS Studio 160 Exhibition is just one.
Teachers at the school believe that every student should receive the opportunity to explore their creative self through a diverse range of visual art experiences, instrumental and vocal ensembles, and drama performances.
Visual Art is explored at almost every year level and students have access to study a range of contemporary art and artists, as well as creating their own 2D and 3D artworks in a wide range of media including drawing, painting, digital and time based, sculptures, ceramics and printmaking.
Students have taken part in local and state competitions over multiple year levels and go on excursions each year to see Contemporary and Traditional artwork as part of the Senior Curriculum.
The Studio 160 Exhibition is free and there is an opening night on October 6 at 4pm until 7pm on the top floor of the IGS Arts Centre.
The exhibition will run from October 6-12.
Win for Denise
Denise Taylor has always been creative, enjoying sewing, crochet, knitting and embroidery from a young age.
This came in handy, after her children were born as she made most of their outfits.
When retirement was approaching Denise wanted to take up a hobby that would challenge her.
Having travelled throughout Australia extensively our beautiful diverse country always excited her from those beautiful panoramic views to that single tree with lots of character.
With many memories and photographs and a yearn to paint Denise joined U3A art group, a group run by the Uniting Church and recently Artsconnect Ipswich.
This hobby just kept growing and she began entering her work in local shows, exhibitions and selling at markets.
Being a country girl at heart it wasn’t hard to be talked into entering her work.
However, never in her wildest dreams did she expect to be shortlisted, let alone win first prize.
“I was ecstatic with this win, it was such an honour to be shortlisted little alone win the Painting Category,” she said.
For Denise the next part of her art journey is an exhibition of works by U3A at the Boonah Art Gallery that runs through to November 17.
Decked Out
Congratulations to all the Decked Out Contestants for an amazing display of created works on skate boards at this year’s completion.
Opening night was a great mixer of pop culture and fine arts. The judges had a tough job choosing the final winners from the 38 decks that were entered. Overall winner was Rafaella Picotti, while junior section winner was Emily Paskall..
