IPSWICH’S vibrant arts scene was on full display last month when Ipswich Artsconnect presented its annual members’ exhibition, Off the Wall, at the Ipswich Community Gallery.

More than 40 local artists took part in the exhibition, showcasing and selling works across a wide range of styles and mediums including photography, painting, woodwork, textiles and craft.

The exhibition featured several award-winning artists, including works by this year’s Ipswich Art Awards winner Anne Toovey, alongside highly commended artists Grant Quinn and Katherine McNamara.

Now in its ninth year, Off the Wall continues to be a much-loved fixture on the local arts calendar. Although the exhibition was held later than usual in the year and attendance numbers were slightly down on previous editions, community support remained strong. More than 150 artworks and craft items were sold during the exhibition, highlighting the ongoing appetite for locally made creative work.

A popular highlight once again was the exhibition raffle, which raised nearly $600 – vital funds that help keep the volunteer-run community group operating.

A key feature of Off the Wall is its strong focus on supporting artists directly, with Artsconnect taking no commission from sales so that all proceeds go straight to the artists themselves. The exhibition also provides valuable exposure and opportunities for new and emerging creatives to showcase and sell their work in a professional gallery setting.

The official opening on December 14 was a lively celebration of local talent, with live music from Nick Hamby setting the tone for the evening. More than 90 guests attended the opening, enjoying the diverse range of artworks on display alongside a generous catering spread prepared by Jill Hills. Together, the art, music and food created what many described as a true feast for the senses.

Artsconnect acknowledged the support of the Regional Arts Development Fund, a partnership between the Queensland Government and Ipswich City Council, which provided funding to help make the exhibition possible.

Looking ahead, Artsconnect Ipswich is already planning a packed calendar for 2026.
