IT WASN’T the prettiest of wins for the Brisbane Lions Women’s side last Sunday, but a victory is a victory.

The Lions powered home in the final half to take down Hawthorn by 27 points and record their fourth win of the season.

Power player, Dakota Davidson, who missed last week’s match due to suspension, had her best game of the season kicking three goals and pulling down eight marks.

The Lions now find themselves in equal third on the table one win behind undefeated equal leaders the Adelaide Crows and Melbourne.

Coach Craig Starcevich put the side’s lack lustre start to the Hawthorn match down to an unsettled preparation with the team riding the emotions of the men’s side the previous day when they went down in a thrilling grand final.

“It’s hard for the team not to be invested in their footy club and what the boys are doing, I believe they have done an amazing job being on the road for the last two weeks and coping with all the outside noise,” he said.

The upset that looked on the cards when Hawthorn led at half-time disappeared quickly after the break as the Lions gathered momentum to maintain a perfect three from three away record in season 2023.

The 10 round season is now shaping up for a gripping final few rounds for Lions fans with home games against current leaders the Crows on Saturday, October 21 and Melbourne in round 10.

This week the Lions return to Brighton Homes Arena to play Collingwood under lights at 7.15pm on Saturday.
