HOPES were high at press time that gun forward Dakota Davidson would be able to play North Melbourne on Sunday. The knee injury she copped last Saturday seems not to be as bad as first feared.
After the collision that saw Davidson crumple in agony, spectators could have been forgiven for thinking her season was over.
Davidson was distraught after hobbling from Brighton Homes Arena in Saturday night’s preliminary final win over Geelong and looked long-odds to face the Kangaroos. But scans have cleared the 24-year-old of any major ligament damage.
Now Davidson should train fully later in the week to show that she’s fit enough to take the park at IKON Arena. If she is in the side, it will be huge boost to the Lions. She’s been the focus of the Lions’ attacking efforts this year, booting 21 goals, which have put her second in the charts for the season behind Melbourne’s Eden Zanker.
The departure of Jesse Wardlaw for St Kilda in the off-season looked to have left Brisbane short, but the Ipswich native, known to be a changing room livewire, has become almost unbeatable in a contest.
When off the pitch against the Cats, she watched veteran defender Shannon Campbell fill in, scoring after she dived to take a mark in the final term.
