FOREST Lake resident Sienna Kaczmarczyk has been selected to compete for Australia at the 2024 Winter Youth Olympic Games in Gangwon, South Korea. The figure skater will compete in the junior women singles event in Gangwon on 30 January 2024. She’s the first athlete to take part in this event since Innsbruck in 2012.
She was one of 10 athletes selected for the competition. Two other figure skaters, one speed skater and six biathletes will join her in Korea.
Australian Chef de Mission and Vancouver 2010 Olympian Ramone Cooper congratulated the athletes.
“I’m thrilled to announce the ten athletes to represent Australia in figure skating, short track speed skating and biathlon at the 2024 Winter Youth Olympic Games, taking our selected team size to 23 of an expected 53-strong Australian team,” Mr Cooper said.
“The WYOG is the ultimate international multi-sport event for emerging elite athletes, providing an opportunity for our athletes to test themselves against the best in the world in their age group and embrace the Olympic values of friendship, respect and excellence.
“I have no doubt these young athletes will represent our country with pride, and I look forward to seeing them shine on the world stage.
“Congratulations again to each of the athletes selected, and to their families, coaches, National Federations and supporters.”
With 50 days to go until Gangwon 2024, the WYOG will bring together a record 1900 athletes from 70 nations to compete across 7 sports, 15 disciplines and 81 events.
