On Saturday night the Ipswich Force men went down 105-100 against a Rockhampton Rockets side who were yet to register a win for the season.
The visiting Rockhampton side led the first half 49-46 and were able to grind out the win despite great performances from Henry Pwono with another double-double of 15 points and 14 rebounds, and Nathan Sobey (21), Jason Ralph (24) and DJ Mitchell (29) all cracking the 20-point mark for the game.
Captain Jason Ralph told Local Ipswich News that the team remained confident in its title defence despite the back-to-back losses.
“A tough game against Rocky,” he said.
“We are still finding our feet and improving each week.
“We have a good group of guys that are willing to play for each other – it just hasn’t clicked yet.
“You don’t win championships in the first few rounds.”
On Saturday the Force host the North Gold Coast Seahawks, with tip-off at 7pm. Both teams have won two games so far this season.
It looks like another long season ahead as the Ipswich Lady Force continue to hunt for their first win for the year after five straight losses.
Saturday night they hosted the undefeated Rockhampton Capitals, going down 95-76 after the score was 38-38 at halftime.
Life is not going to get any easier as they head into next week against a North Gold Coast Seahawks side starring ‘Queen of the rebound’ Mik Ruef and young all-rounder Meila Goodchild.
