TWO more Ipswich sport associations and venues are receiving a funding boost from the State Budget, with the aim of helping residents to become more active.

Ipswich Hockey Association has received $250,000, which will be used to replace an end-of-life playing surface to improve the quality and safety of a hockey field at Ipswich.

Ipswich City Council will receive a grant of $115,300 to be used to replace end-of-life lighting on a softball diamond to improve the quality of facilities at George and Eileen Hastings Sport Complex Ipswich.

Last month, Sutton Park saw an upgrade to lighting to support safe participation and enable more efficient use of football fields.

Across the state, the Minor Infrastructure Program, to help sporting clubs and active recreation organisations, is receiving an additional $9.5 million.

Additionally, more Queenslanders will be encouraged to become more active, while more elite athletes will be assisted to reach their potential with $5.5 million allocated towards three other programs under the 10-year Activate! Queensland 2019-2029 Strategy.

These programs build on the State Budget’s $33.5 million expansion of the FairPlay program, designed to assist with cost-of-living pressures faced by families.

“This is about ensuring we help maintain our fantastic lifestyle for Queensland families, and that includes participation in sport and active recreation,” Premier Steven Miles said.

“Sporting clubs are at the heart of our communities and by assisting them deliver new and upgraded infrastructure, we are encouraging more community members to participate.

“It’s also imperative that we support our elite athletes and coaches.”
