THE POPULATION of Ipswich continues to boom, with the city set to hit a significant milestone.
After adding a further 8356 residents over the past year, Ipswich is preparing to welcome its 260,000th resident, strengthening its reputation as one of the most dynamic and rapidly growing cities in Australia.
Ipswich Mayor Teresa Harding said that in the past quarter from July to September, one suburb had emerged as a standout hotspot.
“The population hotspot at the moment is certainly Ripley with 700 new residents moving in, and 219 new homes built during the same period,” Cr Harding said.
“Another booming suburb, Redbank Plains, welcomed 343 residents and had 131 new homes built.
“Three years ago, Ipswich’s population stood at just over 233,000. This is equivalent to adding a town the size of Gympie to Ipswich each year.
“Looking ahead, Ipswich’s population is expected to more than double to 534,000 within the next two decades.”
Embracing the challenge of rapid population growth requires strong partnerships to meet housing demand and ensure infrastructure keeps pace.
“Our biggest challenge remains ensuring that infrastructure, roads, and public transport are delivered in a timely manner to support this extraordinary growth,” Cr Harding said.
“While council and the community is ready to rise to the challenge, we cannot do this alone.
“We are committed to working closely with the Australian and Queensland governments, as well as the private sector.
“With a growth rate of more than 3% per annum, Ipswich is the fastest-growing council area in Queensland over the next 20 years.”
