FEDERAL Member for Blair Shayne Neumann has reiterated the government’s commitment to improving healthcare, particularly in response to calls from the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP).
The RACGP has urged greater investment in GP services to address Medicare funding issues, GP shortages, and healthcare access challenges, especially for women.
RACGP president Michael Wright emphasised the need for urgent action, calling for a 40 per cent increase in patient rebates for longer GP consultations and better access to women’s health services.
In response, Mr Neumann highlighted the government’s significant investments in Medicare, including the largest funding boost in its 40-year history, and the establishment of three Medicare Urgent Care Clinics in Ipswich, Goodna, and Oxley to ease emergency department pressures.
Additionally, over 105,000 Blair residents benefited from bulk-billed GP visits last year.
Mr Neumann stressed that these measures were delivering affordable, high-quality healthcare for Blair residents, with a focus on reducing the cost of medicines and improving urgent care access.
