EVERY year on March 8, the world unites to celebrate International Women’s Day (IWD), recognising women’s achievements, reinforcing the commitment to gender equality, and advocating for meaningful change.
IWD also serves as a significant opportunity for groups to raise funds and promote awareness for women- focused charities.
With countless events taking place worldwide, IWD encourages every organiser to nominate a charity as a recipient of fundraising or promotional support.
To assist in these efforts, resources such as the IWD 2025 Planning Toolkit and the IWD Giving Directory are available to support charitable activities.
IWD 2025 THEME: ACCELERATE ACTION
The theme for IWD 2025 is Accelerate Action, emphasising the urgent need to step up efforts to achieve gender equality. At the current rate of progress, full gender parity will not be reached until 2158 – approximately five generations from now – according to the World Economic Forum. This statistic highlights the pressing need for immediate and decisive action.
Accelerate Action calls for momentum in addressing systemic barriers and biases that hinder women’s progress in personal and professional spheres. It urges individuals, organisations, and governments to take deliberate steps in creating an equitable world. By working together, we can speed up progress and make a lasting impact.
SUPPORT THE SUPPORTERS
One of the most effective ways to Accelerate Action is by supporting the individuals and organisations working tirelessly to advance gender equality.
IWD 2025 emphasises the importance of integrating women-focused fundraising into all events, helping philanthropic entities sustain their critical work.
Through IWD Giving, March 8 can become one of the most significant global giving days. While major international charities play a crucial role, thousands of smaller grassroots organisations also work diligently to uplift women and girls.
HOW CAN YOU HELP ACCELERATE ACTION?
Every individual has the power to contribute to gender equality. By calling out stereotypes, challenging discrimination, celebrating women’s successes, and promoting inclusive policies, we can all be part of the movement.
Beyond personal efforts, supporting impactful organisations can drive progress in key areas.
