THE new State Flying Squad was unveiled in January to target the worst juvenile and adult offenders, and has marked a major milestone by arresting 288 people during a landmark operation.
The arrests included five serious repeat youth offenders on more than 690 offences.
Combining officers who were attached to operations including Taskforce Guardian and Operation Whiskey Legion, and the Squad joins local law enforcement to ensure criminals are held to account through the Making Queensland Safer Laws.
QPS CELEBRATES STRENGTH AND DIVERSITY THIS HARMONY WEEK
The Queensland Police Service (QPS) celebrated Harmony Week with events across the state, culminating in a morning tea at Police Headquarters in Brisbane.
The event, hosted by the QPS Multicultural Affairs Unit alongside Police Liaison and Cross-Cultural Officers, highlighted the diversity within the service.
Acting Commissioner Shane Chelepy APM attended the celebration and emphasised the importance of inclusivity in policing.
“Our vision for the QPS is an inclusive, diverse, and culturally responsive service where people of all cultures, languages, and faiths feel safe, included and empowered,” he said.
“The experiences and perspectives of our culturally diverse workforce make the QPS stronger and more effective in serving Queensland,” Acting Commissioner Chelepy said.
The QPS is also taking concrete steps to improve relationships with First Nations and culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities. The recently released QPS Multicultural Action Plan 2024-27 outlines 14 initiatives focused on delivering culturally responsive services.
