Major funding boost to tackle youth crime early

THE State Government is delivering on a key election commitment to boost early intervention investment, with the first $10 million of the $50 million Kickstarter grants now open.

The first round of funding will provide grants of up to $300,000 to new Gold Standard Early Intervention programs for education, life skills and support for young people to divert from a life of crime.

The Kickstarter program is part of the Government’s $100 million commitment to deliver Gold Standard Early Intervention programs to restore safety to communities.

Each program will be regionally focused and tailored to meet the needs of local communities across Queensland, with the first round of grants now open.

FINANCIAL SCAMS AWARENESS

The Queensland Police Service and the Financial and Cyber Crime Group are reminding the community to be vigilant and aware of financial scams.

With the recent market volatility, superannuation accounts have been particularly vulnerable, causing many Australians to see a decline in their retirement savings, and then look for opportunities to improve their situation.

Fraudsters use sophisticated practices to deceive victims, including impersonating financial institutions and creating fake investment opportunities.

Be wary of the guarantee of high returns – if it sounds too good to be true, then it probably is.

Get face-to-face financial advice from someone who has an Australian Financial Services licence, which you can check via the ASIC’s website asic.gov.au/online-services.
