BUNDALEER Lodge recently welcomed 20 enthusiastic high school students as part of the Gateway Schools Program – an initiative that connects young people with real-world industry experiences and helps them explore future career pathways.
The visit began with a guided tour of the facility, giving students an inside look at daily life in aged care.
They then heard from passionate staff members working across different roles. Each speaker shared their career journey, offering insights into what their job involves and the rewards of working in aged care. The students were inspired by the team’s genuine passion and dedication to caring for residents.
Adding a special touch to the day, resident Lorraine spoke with the group, sharing her heartfelt thoughts on the qualities that make someone well-suited to a career in aged care.
Her words gave students a valuable perspective on the importance of empathy, patience and kindness in the profession.
The highlight of the visit was the opportunity for students to spend time with more residents. These interactions were meaningful for everyone involved, creating connections that left a lasting impression on both students and residents.
Feedback from the students and their teachers was overwhelmingly positive. Many students said the experience sparked a stronger interest in aged care, with several eager to sign up for work experience placements.
Two visiting teachers from another school who observed the session were so impressed that they have already booked a visit for their students in August.
Bundaleer Lodge is proud to play a role in inspiring the next generation of aged care workers and looks forward to continuing its support for the Gateway Schools Program.
