TUCKED into a beautiful heritage building on Brisbane St, Indian Mehfil has become a beloved culinary landmark in Ipswich since opening its doors in 2010.
With its warm hospitality, authentic Indian flavours, and a prime location across from Nicholas St and Darcy Doyle Place, it’s easy to see why this restaurant continues to attract diners from across the region.
On a breezy Wednesday afternoon, I finally had the chance to experience Indian Mehfil for myself – and it left a lasting impression.
The dining space immediately invites you in. High ceilings, polished timber floors, and ornate Indian decor create a sense of old-world charm blended with elegance.
Whether you’re there for a casual lunch or an evening out, the space feels both intimate and grand – perfect for families, date nights, or group dinners.
I ordered the lunch special, which offers incredible value for money. It includes your choice of curry, a serving of fragrant basmati rice, and freshly baked naan bread. What arrived was a feast for the senses.
The butter chicken was silky and packed with deep, smoky undertones from the tandoor. Its rich tomato-based sauce was perfectly balanced – creamy without being too heavy.
As someone who’s tried countless versions of this classic dish, I was blown away by how refined and comforting this one was.
Next up was the lamb rogan josh, a dish known for its complexity – and this one didn’t disappoint.
Tender cuts of lamb were simmered in a dark, aromatic gravy that offered layers of flavour, from warm spices to a mellow heat that built gently with every bite.
The garlic and cheese naan was the perfect partner – crisp around the edges, pillowy in the centre, and loaded with just the right amount of buttery richness and flavourful toppings.
Each piece was ideal for scooping up the sauce and soaking up every drop of flavour left on the plate.
With dine-in and takeaway options available, the lunch specials make for a convenient yet memorable midday meal.
Indian Mehfil serves lunch from 11.30am to 2.30pm, Sunday to Friday, and dinner from 5 to 9.30pm daily.
Its location makes it a perfect pre or post-show dining option for those visiting the nearby Ipswich Civic Centre or precinct.
