IPSWICH residents seeking affordable mental health support can access individual therapy appointments immediately, with the University of Southern Queensland (UniSQ) Psychology and Counselling Clinic welcoming new clients.
The clinic is encouraging individuals, GPs and other health professionals to make referrals, with appointments currently available for people seeking psychological support.
Based at UniSQ’s Ipswich campus, the clinic provides affordable, evidence-based therapy delivered by provisional psychologists under the supervision of registered clinical psychologists.
The service offers a valuable opportunity for residents to access professional support while helping train the next generation of psychologists.
“By offering timely and affordable services, we’re helping improve access to mental health support while training the next generation of psychologists, counsellors, and social workers,” Clinic Director Jean McCausland-Green said.
Alongside individual therapy, the clinic is preparing to launch two free group programs for adults, both scheduled to begin in early November.
An Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) group will offer participants an opportunity to explore strategies for managing difficult thoughts and emotions, developing psychological flexibility and taking meaningful steps towards personal goals.
A separate free parenting group will provide an opportunity for parents to access support and develop skills to navigate the challenges of raising children.
With cost and access often presenting barriers to mental health care, the availability of affordable individual appointments and free group programs provides another option for Ipswich residents.
Residents interested in individual therapy group programs are encouraged to contact the clinic.
