BRISBANE’S AFLW stars have delivered a timely reminder of their premiership pedigree, dismantling St Kilda by 52 points in a commanding performance highlighted by Sophie Conway’s fairytale 100th game and Natalie Grider’s historic first career goal.
The Lions produced their most convincing football of the season at Melbourne’s RSEA Park on Saturday afternoon, powering to a 75-23 victory to record consecutive wins for the first time in 2026.
While Brisbane’s finals hopes appear all but extinguished following a disappointing campaign, Craig Starcevich’s side showed there is still plenty of pride, passion and quality within a team accustomed to competing for premierships.
And fittingly, it was two of the club’s most loyal servants who provided the afternoon’s defining moments.
Playing her milestone 100th AFLW match, Conway was outstanding with 26 disposals before producing a moment of magic after the final siren.
Having missed four earlier opportunities in front of goal, the two-time All-Australian winger marked deep in the forward pocket during the final minute before calmly converting her set shot after the siren.
Vice-captain Natalie Grider brought the faithful to their feet during the third quarter when she charged forward and produced a brilliant running finish on her left boot.
Remarkably, it was the two-time premiership defender’s first AFLW goal in her 96th appearance, adding another memorable chapter to an afternoon of Lions celebrations.
The Lions established their authority early, kicking four opening-quarter goals.
Leading by 13 points at half-time, the Lions gradually tightened their grip on the contest before producing a devastating final-quarter assault.
It was also just the second occasion this season Brisbane had surpassed 60 points, providing a welcome attacking breakthrough.
