AUSTRALIA’S newest television golden boy is set to take centre stage, with Robert Irwin confirmed as host of the 66th TV Week Logie Awards.

The announcement by Seven comes as the network prepares to celebrate one of Australian television’s biggest nights, with the awards ceremony to be broadcast live from The Star Sydney on August 16.

Irwin steps into the role following the departure of comedian Sam Pang, who hosted the event for the past three years.

The move signals a fresh direction for the Logies, with Seven backing one of Australia’s most recognisable young personalities to lead the celebrations.

Known globally for his wildlife conservation work through Australia Zoo, Irwin has rapidly expanded his television profile in recent years.

From documentary work and reality television appearances to winning the US edition of Dancing with the Stars, the 22-year-old has become one of Australia’s most sought-after media personalities.

Speaking about the appointment, Irwin said hosting the Logies was an honour and a career highlight.

“Hosting the TV Week Logie Awards is one of the most exciting things I’ve been asked to do,” he said.

“Throughout my life, my goal has been to spread an important message not only through our work at Australia Zoo, but also on the screen.

“I grew up watching the Logies with my family, so this is certainly an honour.

“Australian television has given so much to so many people. To be part of the biggest night in Aussie TV is something I don’t take lightly. I cannot wait.”

Seven Managing Director of Television and Streaming Angus Ross said Irwin was the ideal choice to host Australian television’s night of nights.

The appointment has generated strong reactions online, with supporters praising the decision to give a younger generation the opportunity to host the prestigious events.

Others questioned whether the wildlife presenter has the comedy experience traditionally associated with the role, highlighting the challenge of replacing Pang’s sharp wit and award-winning monologues.
