IPSWICH has once again cemented its reputation as a rising star of the screen industry, with the city playing a key role in the newly released international production Balls Up.
The historic Queensland Museum Rail Workshops in North Ipswich were transformed into a vibrant Brazilian streetscape as international cast and crew joined local talent to film scenes for the comedy feature.
Ipswich Mayor Teresa Harding was invited behind the scenes during production and said the experience showcased both the city’s cinematic appeal and the strength of the local community.
“The lights and cameras brought a Hollywood-style buzz to North Ipswich as an international film crew transformed the heritage site into a Brazilian streetscape,” Mayor Harding said.
Directed by Academy Award-winner Peter Farrelly and starring Mark Wahlberg, Paul Walter Hauser and Benjamin Bratt, the production places Ipswich firmly in the international spotlight.
Mayor Harding said Farrelly praised the location and hinted at a possible return for future projects.
With 171 film-friendly locations, a growing pool of skilled industry workers and a supportive creative community,
Ipswich continues to attract major productions from Australia and overseas.
The city has previously featured in productions including The Railway Man and Inspector Gadget 2.
