Kitchen Cabinet is returning to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation later this month, bringing viewers back into the homes and kitchens of some of Australia’s most influential political figures.

Premiering on Tuesday, July 21, at 8.30pm on ABC TV and ABC iview, the eighth season sees journalist Annabel Crabb sit down with six politicians from the 48th Australian Parliament for her trademark blend of cooking, conversation and dessert.

The new season arrives at a time when Australian politics is increasingly fragmented, with major parties facing growing competition from independents and minor parties.

Among those opening their homes to Crabb are Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, Opposition Leader Angus Taylor, independent MP Allegra Spender, Greens senator Mehreen Faruqi and Labor MP Josh Burns.

Crabb said the series aim to move beyond the daily political theatre by giving audiences the chance to see politicians in a more personal setting.

“Politics feels like a food fight right now,” she said.

“But that’s why I’m interested in the people who choose to run for public office. In this series, I’m learning about politicians the way humans have for millennia – by sitting down to eat together.”

Crabb will work with director Stamatia Maroupas and producer Madeleine Hawcroft.

The new season of Kitchen Cabinet premieres on Tuesday, July 21.
