IPSWICH Hospital has welcomed a new cuddle bed, giving families the chance to lie beside a loved one in their final days, offering comfort and closeness at the times it matters most.
The bed has been delivered by the partnership between West Moreton Health Foundation and Kalbar Sunflowers – the third cuddle bed the pair have brought to the West Moreton community. Local artist Jayne Hodgson and Ipswich RSL Sub Branch also lent their support to bring this bed to life.
The bed has been dedicated in loving memory of Lisa Heuston, a much-loved member of the Ipswich community and the inspiration behind Lisa’s Lunches, a local community initiative.
West Moreton Health Foundation CEO Scott Young said the beds made a profound difference for families during palliative care.
“Cuddle beds are designed for families in palliative care, so a partner, parent or child doesn’t have to be an arm’s length away from someone they love in their final days – they can be right beside them.
“This is the third bed Kalbar Sunflowers has helped bring to our community, following beds already supporting families in Boonah and Ripley, and now Ipswich.
“We’re so grateful to Kalbar Sunflowers, the West Moreton community, Jayne Hodgson and Ipswich RSL Sub Branch for helping make this bed possible.”
Kalbar Sunflowers founder Jenny Jenneraid the group was proud to support another cuddle bed for the community.
“Through Sunflowers for Good, our community is helping us give back in meaningful ways, and that’s the part that means the most to me,” she said.
“It is also a fitting way to honour Lisa’s memory.”
