WHEN I first met Alex Jones, my instant reaction was, wow, this girl’s “cray cray”… but in a good way!
Her sense of humour, her outlook on life, and her ability to command the room without even knowing she was doing it.
Born in Cootamundra and raised on a cattle farm until the family moved to the Tweed when she was 10, she called the southern end of the Gold Coast home until 2023 when she made the move to Ipswich.
In her own words, she said she was born with art in her veins, and always knew art was her “jive”
Graduating from Gold Coast’s Griffith University campus in 1999 with a Bachelor of Arts, Alex was quick to get started on her art career.
From 2001 to 2008 she ran her own ceramics business, while continuing studies and receiving her Diploma of Graphic Design from The Queensland Institute of Graphic Arts in 2005.
This allowed Alex to slightly shift focus to graphic design with her business Alex Jones Graphics in 2006, while still juggling her ceramics design business, and loving every minute of it.
This took a slight detour in 2010 when Alex’s mum was diagnosed with breast cancer, shifting priorities to focus on family.
She started a nails business “Claws In A Box” during her mum’s treatment and recovery, and ended up doing costume nails for the entertainment industry both within Australia and internationally.
Then in 2023 made the decision to reassess, refocus and relocate to Ipswich, where she continued her nail business.
But this took a drastic turn only two months in when she woke with a terrible headache, which turned out to be an Ischemic Stroke.
She subsequently had to learn basic skills all over again like walking and talking.
Now, two years on, Alex still has regular weekly physio therapy, but knows her best therapy has been art.
Although still receiving therapy, Alex is proof that art has the power to inspire, to heal, and to connect.
Alex currently has works on show and for sale in the Arts Connect Booval Fair Community Art Gallery.
