KAMBU Health has appointed respected Aboriginal Community Controlled Health leader Dania Ahwang as its new Chief Executive Officer, ushering in a new chapter for the organisation as it celebrates its 50th year of service.
Kambu Health Board Chair Allan Fisher said Ms Ahwang was selected following an extensive recruitment process and would bring a wealth of executive leadership experience to one of the region’s most important Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations.
“Dania is a highly respected leader who has consistently demonstrated a strong commitment to improving health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples through community-led, culturally safe healthcare,” Mr Fisher said.
“Her proven leadership, strategic vision and commitment to strong governance make her exceptionally well placed to lead Kambu Health into the future.”
Ms Ahwang previously served as Chief Executive Officer of Wuchopperen Health Service from 2018 to 2023, overseeing an organisation of around 300 staff while driving organisational growth, workforce development and expanded service delivery.
Her leadership experience also includes serving as Chair of the Northern Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Alliance, Chair of Regional Health Partners, Deputy Chair of the Medical Research Future Fund Consumer Reference Panel, and Chief Executive Officer of the Torres Strait Island Regional Council.
Mr Fisher said the Board was confident her appointment would build on Kambu Health’s proud legacy while positioning the organisation for continued growth.
“Kambu Health has always been focused, and will continue to be focused on providing high-quality, culturally responsive healthcare for our community,” he said.
Ms Ahwang said she was honoured to join an organisation with such a rich history of serving Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people across the Ipswich and West Moreton region.
Today, Kambu Health employs more than 130 staff and delivers comprehensive medical, specialist, allied health and community services.
