WHILE four-wheel-drives are usually more at home towing trailers or tackling rough tracks, the King of the Strip competitors showed just how far the performance 4×4 scene has come last weekend at Willowbank Raceway with the Dobinsons King of the Strip.

Many of the vehicles arrived looking relatively close to something you might see on the road, but once the lights dropped, it became clear there was nothing ordinary under the bonnet.

The racing was close and unpredictable, with drivers battling changing track conditions, traction and the pressure of lining up against some of the quickest vehicles in the scene.

There were clean passes, personal bests and a few moments that sent crews back to the pits with plenty of work ahead of them with some having traction issues and others not so much and really taking advantage of the sticky Willowbank Raceway dragstrip.

Highlight of the event was MR RIG up from Victoria in his Toyota really gripping up on the track, sending the 4×4 in orbit with Elon’s Starlink satellites!

Away from the racing, the pits had a relaxed and social atmosphere, with competitors helping each other between rounds and fans getting a closer look at the vehicles and the work behind them.

Dobinsons King of the Strip once again proved that the performance 4×4 scene is growing quickly, with bigger builds, faster times and strong support from racers and fans.

By the end of the event, trophies and bragging rights had been decided, while plenty of competitors left Willowbank already planning their next round.
