NAIDOC week celebrations have been springing up all over Ipswich and showing their keen support our local politicians were kept on the hop as they moved from one event to the other.
The celebrations included the opening of a community garden at the Kambu Children and Family Centre in Silkstone.
The centre offers kindergarten and long day care facilities and presently has around 100 daily attendees.
Federal Member for Blair, Shayne Neumann, used the Silkstone event to reiterate his pre-election commitment to invest $2.5 million in Kambu Health.
“This grant includes $2 million for upgrades to the Roderick Street clinic to build new, fit-for-purpose facilities to meet growing demand in the Ipswich region,” he said.
“The new Federal Labor Government will also provide an additional $500,000 to also relocate this Children and Family Centre to the new facility”
The Ipswich region is the fastest-growing local government area in Queensland, and by 2031 the local Indigenous population is expected to exceed 130,000 people.
“The LNP Government abandoned people in Ipswich following their election in 2013, not bothering to invest in health infrastructure to keep up with this growing population and demand.
“Kambu Health supports 5,500 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and Labor’s investment will make
sure they meet the needs of their clients now and into the future.
“The new Children and Family Centre will mean medical and allied specialists can provide a holistic service to children, including health checks, as they prepare to start school.
Kambu Health is a community controlled, not-for-profit charitable entity established to provide health and community services to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community in the Ipswich and West Moreton region.
