Friends unite to support family of missing Springfield woman

A SPRINGFIELD family has been facing an agonising wait for news after local woman Kanagamah Sundrasan was reported missing near the Nepal-Tibet border following the devastating flooding disaster.

Ms Sundrasan had been travelling through the region when a mountainside collapse triggered a destructive surge of water and debris through villages, roads and hydropower infrastructure.

Communication has been cut across several districts, severely complicating rescue and recovery efforts as authorities work through the remote Himalayan disaster zone.

As of Tuesday, her family had not received confirmed updates on her whereabouts, and friends are focusing on staying hopeful while working with authorities and support networks overseas.

A group of community friends who know Ms Sundrasan have launched a GoFundMe appeal, Supporting Kanagamah Sundrasan and her Family, to help ease the financial pressure on her loved ones during what organisers describe as an “extremely difficult and uncertain time”.

The appeal says funds will assist with travel and accommodation for relatives who may need to travel to Nepal, as well as legal, administrative and communication costs while the family awaits updates.

Donations will also help cover everyday living expenses and provide practical and emotional support as the search continues.

“Her family is going through an extremely difficult and uncertain time as they await news of their loved one,” the appeal states.

“We would like to come together as a community to offer our support and help ease some of the difficulties the family may face.

“Every contribution, however small, will be greatly appreciated and will provide meaningful support to the family during this challenging period.”

The flooding has caused widespread damage across the Nepal-Tibet border region, with roads, bridges, power lines and other vital infrastructure affected.

Amid the destruction, residents, volunteers and community groups have reportedly mobilised to help people reach safety, distribute food and water, and establish temporary shelter in schools and monasteries.

In Springfield, support for Ms Sundrasan’s family has been quieter but no less heartfelt, with locals offering donations, meals and messages of solidarity.

Those close to her describe Ms Sundrasan as thoughtful, curious and deeply connected to her community.

The family has expressed gratitude for the support and asked for privacy as they navigate the uncertainty of the days ahead.

As rescue teams continue their work in one of the Himalayas’ most difficult disaster zones, the Springfield community is holding onto hope for news and for Ms Sundrasan’s safe return.
