AUSTRALIANS are being called upon to roll up their sleeves, pull on their gloves and help tackle the nation’s growing litter problem, with registrations officially opening for Clean Up Australia Day 2027.
Returning on Sunday, March 7, the annual environmental initiative is encouraging families, schools, businesses and community organisations across Ipswich and South East Queensland to take action against rubbish polluting local streets, parks, bushland and waterways.
Now entering its 37th year, Clean Up Australia Day has become the nation’s largest community-based environmental event, attracting close to 24 million volunteers since its establishment in 1990.
More than 850,000 Australians participated in the 2026 campaign across 11,000 events, with organisers hoping to build on that momentum and inspire even greater participation next year.
Clean Up Australia Chair Pip Kiernan said the event demonstrated the extraordinary difference communities could make when working towards a common goal.
“There’s nothing quite like seeing our whole nation come together for a shared purpose,” Ms Kiernan said.
Registrations are now open, with individuals, families, schools and community groups eligible to receive free clean-up kits.
