First exhibition for 2026 showcases stunning local and global art

SCENIC Rim Regional Council is launching its first exhibition of 2026 with a stunning celebration of creativity, culture and collaboration.

Opening this Saturday at The Centre Beaudesert, the exhibition features 100 vibrant artworks by Beaudesert State School Year 6 students, alongside the internationally inspired Mr Chippa the Woodblock Carver of Bagru.

Created by Australian artist Lee FullARTon, the exhibition brings to life her children’s book through hand-carved woodblocks and traditional hand-printing techniques, showcasing the centuries-old craft of Bagru artisans in India.

Lee’s journey began in 2011 during an Artist in Residence in Bagru, near Jaipur’s Pink City.

After years of research, residencies, and collaboration with local artisans, her illustrations were transformed into carved woodblocks, some of which were printed in her Queensland studio by Lee and fellow printmaker Sara Butcher.

Scenic Rim’s Community, Arts and Culture Portfolio Councillor Kerri Cryer said the exhibition offers a gentle yet profound cultural lesson.

“The motifs in Mr Chippa’s moon-shaped block tell the story of his village as a traditional rangoli,” Cr Cryer said.

“It encourages viewers to connect with their immediate surroundings and reflect, offering a moment of calm in a fast-paced world.”

The exhibition opening includes an “in conversation” session with Lee FullARTon and guest speaker Dr Natasha Narain, with light refreshments provided.

Bookings are essential.

The free exhibition runs until June 6, during gallery hours:

Tuesday to Friday 10am-4pm and Saturday 10am-2pm, excluding public holidays and the Easter weekend.
