Week five of our campaign to find the best things of Ipswich saw us on the hunt for the best burger our region had to offer.

The search sparked fierce debate online, with burger lovers tagging their favourite takeaway joints, hidden gems and long-time local institutions from right across the Ipswich region.

In just 24 hours, the post reached more than 25,600 views from almost 19,000 people, proving locals are serious when it comes to a quality burger.

After hundreds of comments, votes and passionate recommendations, four venues rose to the top of the burger mountain – but one surged ahead to claim the crown.

Leading the pack was Just Poppy’s in Goodna with an impressive 34.2 per cent of the vote, earning bragging rights as Ipswich’s favourite burger destination.

Coming in equal second were Grubbies Burgers & Hawaiian BBQ in Redbank Plains, praised by locals for its popular Double Smash Burger, and Meghan’s Munchies at Raceview, with both securing 23.3 per cent of the vote and recommended for a user who chooses what’s on their burger and can add anything to kick it up to another level.

Rounding out the top four was Hello Harry in Nicholas Street Precinct on 19.2 per cent.

BIG, BOLD BURGERS

Five weeks into our Best of Ipswich campaign and readers have turned out in force to share their favourite local spots, from hidden gems to long-time institutions.

Despite black skies and rain pouring down, Roamin Rowan headed to Just Poppy’s to see why so many locals insisted this was the place to beat and find out why readers kept saying this was the place for burgers.

And straight up – the hype is real.

Ordered up was the B & E Burger, stacked with a beef patty, egg, bacon, onion, lettuce, tomato, beetroot and mayo.

It arrived big, bold and loaded with everything you want from a proper old-school Aussie burger.

Every bite packed a flavour punch, with the balance of juicy beef, crispy bacon and fresh salad making this one impossible to put down. It’s a burger that demands two hands and a stack of napkins.

You can quickly understand why Just Poppy’s has become a burger institution in Ipswich. Sitting right in the heart of Goodna, this place doesn’t hide away – much like its burgers, it stands proud and screams to be noticed.

With burgers catering to every taste, appetite and hunger level, this is a spot worth the drive.
