The girls can hoop! Members of the Bremer State High’s Basketball Academy showcased their skills in the recent Metro Finals Carnival, taking out the title in dominant fashion.
At the one-day carnival, the girls took on Springfield Central State Secondary College, coming out winners 59-20.
The team has built a formidable reputation all season, having gone undefeated and winning every game by a margin of 30 points or more.
Director of Basketball James Ringholt said that working with this group made him very proud and that it was just the beginning of the girls showcasing their talent.
“Incredibly proud of our 7-8 Girls Academy team and what they’ve accomplished already in 2024,” he said.
“We are incredibly lucky to have so many talented basketball players in our junior year levels and our coaches at Bremer love getting to work with them every day.”
The squad as a collective is bursting with talent, but Ringholt mentioned two names to keep an eye out for as potential stars of the future.
“Lyla Rangi was named to the Basketball Queensland FDP Program.
“Havanah Inu is a big stand out for us.
“She is poised to have a big year and will be pushing for Queensland selection.”
The squad will now complete at the Championship of Basketball Schools in Queensland later this year, with Ringholt saying they will grasp the opportunity with both hands.
“Our 7-8 Girls are on a journey to prove that they’re the best school team in their age group in Queensland,” Ringholt said.
“They will have the chance to do that at that tournament.”
