WHEN it comes to making sweet harmony, Danika Connell is your girl. The Year 12 student at Bremer State High School has hit a real high note in her recent Music Extension assessments.

In fact, Danika has set a new standard for excelling in musical performance. But it’s due reward for outstanding dedication to her art and her natural talent. She achieved 100% in all three of her Music Extension assessments.

Internal assessments 1 and 2 were marked a perfect 20/20, but Danika did not stop there. She went on to score an extraordinary 35 out of 35 in her third assessment.

Jesse Luque, Danika’s Music Extension teacher, said, ”It has been an absolute privilege to be Danika’s Music Extension teacher. To witness someone with as much passion, drive and determination as her is something that does not come around often. Danika always looks to go above and beyond what is asked of her, and takes on each new challenge with a sense of fortitude and grace that is inspiring those around her. She has truly left a legacy at Bremer State High School for future students to aspire to.”

The arts director at the school, she’s always eager to be involved in supporting performing arts events, she encourages her classmates to embrace their talents and explore the vibrant world of artistic expression.

The young talent also loves the limelight as frontwoman for the Year 12 rock band, Spire. And this isn’t just any old rock band. It showed its mettle when it took out this year’s Ipswich Schools Battle of the Bands competition.

Danika said, “Music extension has been a huge part of my life. Even in junior years, just knowing the person I needed to become to make the best out of being in music extension was a huge driving factor for me.

“I never shot for numbers and marks, I just wanted to take advantage of the environment I had, and perform and write genuinely. It wasn’t always easy, but I learnt that being so emotionally open and embracing vulnerability was an important part of being able to connect with others.”
