VICTIM survivors escaping domestic and family violence will have access to new purpose-built transitional homes in the Ipswich region under an initiative being launched by the Domestic Violence Action Centre as it marks 30 years of supporting the community.

DVAC will officially launch its Homes for Hope initiative at its 30th anniversary celebration in Ipswich on October 10, with money raised from the event helping provide safe accommodation for people rebuilding their lives after violence.

The initiative will deliver purpose-built modular homes in two local locations, providing transitional accommodation for victim survivors at a time when the housing and cost-of-living crises are making it increasingly difficult for people to safely leave violent relationships.

The project has received funding support from the Australian Government, Ipswich City Council and private philanthropy, while DVAC is now calling on the wider community and local businesses to help bring the Homes for Hope vision to life.

DVAC CEO Amie Carrington said the organisation’s 30th anniversary was an opportunity to celebrate three decades of service while confronting the continuing impact of domestic and family violence across the community.

In the past year alone, DVAC worked with more than 9200 people responding to and recovering from domestic, family and sexual violence.

The organisation will celebrate three decades of work with Celebrating 30 Years: A Night of Community, Connection and Hope at Hotel Commonwealth in Ipswich’s Nicholas Street Precinct on Saturday, October 10.

Proceeds will go towards Homes for Hope, and DVAC is also seeking sponsors and donations from across the community to help support the transitional housing initiative.

Tickets and donations are available through DVAC’s 30 Years Humanitix event page.
