LOCAL production group THAT Production Company has received funding from the State Government to be able to tour its unique show to the regions.
The group has received $100,000 to tour Every Brilliant Thing, a production that tells the coming-of-age story of the central character as he deals with life and his mother’s attempts to end her life.
Directed by Tim Wynn, the show was staged at both Metro Arts in West End and the Ipswich Civic Centre and will be taken on the road to Longreach, Winton, Mount Isa, Hughenden, Blackall, and the Shire of Bulloo, thanks to this funding.
Wynn told Local Ipswich News that this show was important to showcase around the state.
“I think it’s really important for shows like Every Brilliant Thing to travel to regional and remote audiences as they address issues of wellbeing and resilience in places that might not have access to this type of theatre normally,” he said.
The Queensland Government has awarded almost $1.2 million to support high-quality arts tours and theatre experiences.
The arts and cultural experiences are expected to reach more than 80,000 Queenslanders with the Touring Queensland Fund, which is set to drive art and cultural opportunities right across Queensland.
The funding has supported nine artists and companies, with more than 750 performances and exhibitions funded through this grant round.
State Minister for Education and the Arts John-Paul Langbroek said this funding connected Queenslanders to vibrant arts, cultural and theatre experiences.
“We’re committed to supporting our vibrant art, live music and comedy shows, so Queenslanders have access to entertainment, no matter where they live,” Mr Langbroek said.
“The Touring Queensland Fund helps our state’s talented artists and art organisations take their shows on the road, providing more for Queenslanders to see and do, while supporting local performers.
“This investment is a shot-in-the-arm for our talented arts workers.”
